April 24, 2019 — After a week of waiting in Key West for a replacement anchor chain to come from North Palm Beach, we finally were ready to head to Bimini, our port of entry into the Bahamas.
For our second foray into the Bahamas we visited Great Stirrup Cay, where we anchored between two private islands owned by Carnival Cruise Lines and Norwegian Cruise Lines waiting on weather, Nassau, which everyone advised us to avoid but we enjoyed the local street food and wandering into Atlantis, and the Exuma Islands, where we ran into the Mermaid Monster, a Nordhavn 55 with a young CA couple, Brooke and Braden, their two little ones Rooney and Penn and their two dogs. After weathering together a night squall on anchor (see Mermaid Monster You Tube Episode #27) at Warderick Wells we became fast cruising buddies.
On our exit from the Bahamas we stopped in Harbour Island to revisit our old haunts, and Man-O-War Cay in the Abacos where we had a delightful dinner with a couple from Montreal, James and Wendy, at their beautiful sea-to-sea property. (James and Wendy’s property was destroyed with the passage of Hurricane Dorian in late 2019 – luckily despite the total destruction no one was hurt)
